I studied at Penn State, where I had been eating ice cream at the Creamery since age 1. 

I majored in journalism and immediately joined The Daily Collegian, where my first news article covered a local wing eating contest

I worked as a reporter covering arts & entertainment, then as a page designer and health reporter, then as the newspaper's first food reporter.

 

 

 

I graduated in 2009 and moved to NYC for a food writing internship.

In Summer 2009 I interned at Eats Media Group and then wrote restaurant reviews for The Gotham Palate

I then worked in Brooklyn restaurants and bars as a server, host, food runner and bartender for seven years and started writing food & drink features, with topics like NYC's cider revival and the rise of Korean food in Brooklyn. I wanted to tell the stories behind restaurants and food & drink businesses in an engaging, thoughtful way.

 

 

 

I'm currently a freelancer working on content projects in the food space. I'm also part of a team of volunteers helping to open Central Brooklyn Food Co-op.

In Winter 2017, I visited Lyon, France and Turin, Italy for a month to learn about wine and regional gastronomy. Read about my eats here. My travel plans are based on foods I want to try. 

I've taken many

 food-fueled journeys to Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, L.A., Las Vegas and my hometown, Pittsburgh, and I've eaten through Nashville, Memphis, Tupelo, Jackson, Indianola, San Francisco, Seattle, Honolulu, Juneau and Skagway.

 

I visit restaurants, cafés, bars, bodegas, breweries, wineries, chocolatiers and grocery stores and talk to people everywhere I go.
